Jesus, Kavanaugh is becoming a bigger and bigger asshole with each question.
And no, Orrin Hatch, the Democrats were not allowed to call for an FBI investigation.

Who told him that turning questions back on senators was the way to go? I’ve never seen a hearing like this.

> I hope I’m wrong, but I have a feeling we’re going to see just how fake Ben Sasse, Bob Corker, and Jeff Flake really are, and I suppose you can add Murkowski and Collins to that list as well. Fake outrage. Fake concern. Fake love of country. This “hearing” is a sham. Nothing is going to change. They could probably have 25 more women come out and claim being raped and it wouldn’t matter, because to stop this criminal from taking his seat on the court requires that senators actually have some courage. And I just don’t see it.
>
> Even after Flake and Corker leave, they don’t want to be locked out of lucrative lobbying careers, so they’re going to be careful not to do anything that would get the doors slammed in their faces post-Senate. Their independence is a myth.

That’s what I expect. Those men and women may have a smidge more honor and decency than the rest of the Republicans in the Senate, but I’m still very skeptical that it’s enough to objectively evaluate the allegations against Kavanaugh.

I hope this was said tongue firmly in cheek. I’ll be honest…I’m uncomfortable listening to this stuff and can only listen in short bursts before I need to turn it off. I was trying to follow along while looking in on this thread but the testimony and cross questioning is physically making me feel ill.

I still don’t know the guilt or innocence of the underlying contention between him and Ford, but I’m more convinced than I was that this dude has no business being one of our USSC justices for life. Ugh.

Seems like it’d be awfully easy for Kavanaugh to say “yes, I’d like the FBI to fully investigate these allegations and clear my name”. And he’s had several opportunities to answer questions with that, but has chosen not to.

Evangelicals do - not - care. I mean they elected Trump, after all.

What matters is that fetuses with anencephaly have more rights than natural born women and minorities. And Kavanaugh can make that happen.

This infantile “Yeah I’ve drunk, HAVE YOU? HAVE YOU?” game is just showing how incredibly unfit he is for the highest court in the land.

He’s an entitled hypocritical prick who can’t rein in his temper. Basically, the perfect Trump nominee.

Hey, I’ve got no fight with a man who embraces drinking beer, or drinking anything for that matter. But never in all my escapades and stupors did it ever occur to me that I should rape someone. This whole frat boy date rape shit just sickens me, and we were getting to a point in this society where even drunken frat boys were starting to realize that this wasn’t really good for women. But it’s turn back the clock night in the Senate - the fucking Senate - and the clock seems to be going further and further back into time - like the 1300s.

> This is a liveblog, so I’m just going to tell you what I’m thinking: I think it seems pretty damned obvious that Kavanaugh is lying about questions surrounding his drinking habits. I think he’s concluded that he has to lie about them because if it can be established that he drinks to the point of blacking out or at least “getting fuzzy,” then his denial isn’t worth very much when Ford said the incident occurred when Kavanaugh was very drunk. He might undertake the strategy of lying about his drinking habits whether he was guilty of the assault, innocent of the assault, or was too drunk to know either way. But if you’ve been following the details about this case, it’s very, very likely that he’s knowingly lying about his drinking habits.

I disagree. He’s not some layman, outside the governmental process, and can credibly claim that he doesn’t think subjects of the confirmation process should comment about the process itself. Either to suggest things that should be done or suggest that things not be done.

Christ, this guy is a fucking nutjob.

He confirms my worst suspicions about where Republicans are trying to take this country. They really do want this to become part God state, part oligarchy, part kleptocracy. We’re closer to the precipice. I knew we were headed there, just didn’t think it would be so soon.

You can see impulsiveness speaking for him, driving him to interrupt, accuse senators of “mocking” him, and turning questions around them on immaturely.

It’s at the point that I can’t see him as a legal powerhouse, because all I see is emotional jerkiness.

He can comment about Democratic Senators’ drinking habits, he can comment about the process being a gotcha to get back at the Republicans over the Clintons, he can say the Democrats are out to get him, but he can’t comment on the process?
