I’m gonna put the chance of West Virginia Sen. Joe Manchin (D) being re-elected at zero percent.

> So they’re calling the roll, and Senators are voting when their name is called just like they did this morning, but Manchin can jump in and vote when the B’s are being called or something? I don’t think so. They don’t have to vote when their name is called, but they can’t just vote “whenever they like.”

Until the voting period is officially closed, they can. They walk up to the table and give a thumb up or down. Have you ever watched CSPAN2?

Manchin’s been consistently leading his Republican opponent by double digits.

Doh! :smack: Forgot we’re past the primaries. 😛

Which means that they bribed him or scared him. I wonder who he’s met with in the past few weeks who has contacts in Russia?

It’s time to write off West Virginia as white, confederate, inbred, shit kicker land.

This is also why the Democratic party needs to stop experimenting with Barack Obama 2.0.

It needs a nasty white man who just kinda happens to like minorities and women. It needs a nasty centrist militarist. We need an ex general who can unite different factions. We have to have a military strongman like George Washington who ultimately has the character to give back the country at the end of his rule.

Lemme know when you find such a person, but I’ll tell you right now that it’s highly unlikely I’ll bet the farm on them.

Well, 8.5% per 538, and 9.5% per RCP. Not double digits, but close.

It’s not clear to me if you’re calling for a coup or just a candidate with a military service record.

> AND who would be just as willing to overturn Roe. What’s so special about Kav? …

My guess is that the GOP is calculating that Kav ignites the “anti-#MeToo” vote in a way that no other Federalist-Society-approved candidate could. And they believe that all those who believe that women need to be shown their ‘proper place’ will be energized to turn out in November.

Kavanaugh wasn’t _chosen_ for that, obviously–he was chosen by Trump because he promised to keep Trump safe from investigation and subpoenas. But when it turned out that Kav had a reputation for shall we say ‘indelicate’ interactions with women, he became the poster boy for all those men who believe they should be able to do as they please.

Will the GOP turn out to be right about this? Or will the voting-eligible women of America hand them their asses? We’ll know on November 7th.

We need a military centrist (populist) to be elected; then he can implement his “reforms” as he sees fit.

Elizabeth Warren and Kamala Harris? NO!!!

We need testosterone!!!

I wish it didn’t come to this, but this country enjoys being slapped around. We need someone to slap us around.

Why do liberals need a centrist and where are you going to find a liberal minded general? Generals are not known for their liberal tendencies.

> Well, sure. The fact that most houses have first-floor bathrooms doesn’t disprove the fact that there are still a fair number of houses out there - including in Bethesda, MD - that don’t.

Not to mention the fact that Christine Blasey Ford didn’t make any claim that there was only a second-floor bathroom in the house.

In her letter to Feinstein, she wrote:

> Kavanaugh physically pushed me into a bedroom as I was headed for **a bathroom** up a short stair well from the living room.

[https://www.cnn.com/2018/09/16/politics/blasey-ford-kavanaugh-letter-feinstein/index.html](https://www.cnn.com/2018/09/16/politics/blasey-ford-kavanaugh-letter-feinstein/index.html)

In her testimony before the Senate she said:

> **[Read Christine Blasey Ford's Opening Remarks](https://time.com/5408380/christine-blasey-ford-opening-remarks-transcript/)**

> "I was pushed onto the bed and Brett got on top of me."

“To use the bathroom” is a common expression and does not imply ‘the only bathroom in the house.’

And for all we know, there was another bathroom on the first floor and _it was in use when 15-year-old Christine realized she had a need for restroom facilities_.

So the entire ‘oooo we caught her in a lie because why would she use a second floor bathroom!??!!?!!!1!!!’ line of argument is silly and fallacious.

I really appreciate that statement against the insult against my home state. We have disagreed, but I thank you for that.

I will not post again in this thread unless something unexpected happens tomorrow with the confirmation vote.

I am distressed about how this has divided our country, not just in politics, but at a visceral level. Hopefully that can change.

So you’re a regressive progressive?

Please calm down. Fox news viewership is average age 70 or so. THese gyrations of politics are a reflection of the dying off of a point of view. It takes a few cycles for it.

That’s the reason why kavanaugh is so important to them and they would sell their souls for it. It’s the only lasting thing they can do. Everything else they have is floating away.
