Can Democrats actually stop the nomination of Brett Kavanaugh?

I haven’t checked to see, but I assume from Smapti’s use of “rescinded its endorsement” that they did at some point.

Newspaper endorsements ain’t what they used to be.

The Constitution is a lot shorter than the Bible, so I wonder…say, on a word by word basis…which one has been more enthusiastically plundered by scoundrels.

The article I linked links to their original endorsement.

See, I never doubted you and my faith has been rewarded.

What’s with all the sniffing? Cocaine use?

That constant weird sniffing didn’t look like anything normal. It didn’t look like a cold. There were a few times when he seemed close to tears, but the sniffing was ongoing even during routine questions. Is he a regular user? Did he sniff a few lines before the hearing?

Related: Does this guy have the temperament to be a Supreme Court judge - or any kind of judge at all? He came across as angry, aggressive, and unbalanced. Supporters will say that he was being attacked unfairly, but is this how a decent, innocent, serious guy with a judicial temperament deals with attacks? This was basically the most serious job interview of his life, in front of the whole of America, and he was (presumably) sober. What would he have been like as a wild teenager after a few beers on a Saturday night?

If you were in court for a parking ticket, would you want this guy to be the judge?

Really? We’re recycling the same conspiracy theories used against President Trump during the campaign again? C’mon now, at least try to be original.

Do you know what’s meant by the term ‘conspiracy theory’?

All I can say, as an outsider looking on, is that the sniffing looked pretty weird to me.

Well, at least you’ve got company with your wild theories:

Yeah he did. So? It was to be expected and seemed to have been his teams strategy. Feinstein was the weak point of the opposition while Klobucher (sp?) seemed the most competant, the exchange seemd designed to run out the clock.

One of the articles I read did make this rather wry observations that post Kavanaughs appearance Conservatives are speaking about the need for men to express their feelings and emotions while liberals have suddenly discovered the value of male stoicism.
(FTR, he is an Appellate judge and if confirmed would go the an Appellate Court, he would not deal with defendants).

There’s no way to know (yet) if this is true or just bluffing, but …

Townhall - BREAKING: We Have The Votes (note that the “we” here probably excludes most of you)

If it is, then fuck you, Manchin, you closet Nazi, you deserve to lose your reelection.

The only thing worse than a Nazi is a coward who’ll vote for a Nazi because he’s afraid of losing his job.

Another point of agreement between us

The post says they rescinded their endorsement. Would you say that when they originally endorsed him that they were just biased?

IMHO The accusations against Kavanaugh simply don’t hold water. If this thing kept happening, why did she keep attending the parties? Why were there no other witnesses? Why were there no other victims? I find it difficult to believe that not one victim went to the police. And why wait to now?

We have a man accused of being party (ahem) to mass gang rape who has been investigated multiple times before earlier appointments and this has never surfaced?

Sorry but the accusations don’t add up.

The ABA now advocates a delay until these allegations are fully investigated.

I doubt it makes a difference. And confirming Kavanaugh would probably help the Democrats for the midterms. But I’m still hopeful that there might be a pair of Republican senators with a shred of human decency.

A Republican friend and supporter of Kavanaugh says he lied to the committee about his drinking.

And wow! Look at the article directly under that:

Yikes!

Have you not read the previous 94 pages of this thread?

Or listened to the testimony?

Or read literally anything that has happened in the news since the Weinstein allegations broke?

We live in a society where men, especially Old Money white men, have been raised to believe they can do what they want to women with impunity, and where women have been taught that there’s no point in coming forward because nothing will come of it, nobody will believe you, you’ll be ridiculed and told you deserved it or were asking for it or you’re making it up just for attention, and other white men online will post your home address and your family’s information and make death threats towards you for daring to tell your story.

If you were a woman in that situation, would you be so cocksure about coming forward with your story?

As a white cisgender straight man who has most (but not all) of the privilege that comes with being born into this cultural clique, I doubt that I would.

Have you? It’s - of course - possible that I’ve missed something, but there’s a whole lot of what can at best be called wishful thinking.

I’ve read it, and in the word of Dopers everywhere, “Cite?” There is absolutely no evidence for the allegations. For starters, you haven’t addressed any of the points I’ve raised.
