Can Democrats actually stop the nomination of Brett Kavanaugh?

This is the final event in a series of events over the last two years that, besides making me leave the Republican party, leave me thinking our Constitution is a shit document, and make me genuinely ashamed to be an American. If only Norway wasn’t so cold.

Nutpicking, not only for internet illogical ponderings, but also good for congress critters. /s

About half of your neighbors, co-workers and relatives.

Senator Flake walked out to talk with Democrats minutes before the Judiciary Committee was going to vote up or down on Kavanaugh.

Flake likes to talk tough, but now that he has a chance to really do something of import and prevent decades of harm…

I’m not gonna let the Flake/Collins/Murkowski triumverate suck me into a vortex of false optimism this time. They’re gonna vote to confirm, or at least two of them will, and that’s all they’ll need. I hope they’ll prove me wrong, but I highly, highly doubt it.

I stopped having any sort of hope for this country doing the right thing about two years ago.

I think he can still vote yes, but not right now. That’s probably the discussion.

A friend of mine linked to this blog post that makes the argument that Kavanaugh is guilty because he already knew Ford’s identity before it was public (shown by Whelan’s doppleganger theory being aired too early) and that the GOP was already trying so hard to get ahead of it.

Thoughts? I didn’t see any smoking gun (as it could be the GOP just wanted to get ahead of it no matter what because he’s their nominee sink or swim, regardless of guilt) but interesting nonetheless. I know a lot of people were a bit surprised the Dems didn’t bring up the doppleganger theory at all yesterday.

What’s amazing is that one sexual assault victim, who excoriated Flake in the elevator, could actually have changed his mind and may singlehandedly keep Kavanaugh off the SC. God that would be awesome.

Ken Dilanian (NBC reporter) on twitter: Serious discussions underway to delay the vote and allow the FBI to investigate.

The false-optimism vortex is trying its hardest to suck me in…

Flake calls for a delay of one week

Woohoo Flake caves! Of course the Republicans don’t quite appreciate yet that he could be saving them in 2020.

LINK???

I’m so confused.

Does Flake’s motion not get a vote?

It looks like they just now voted 11-10 to recommend Kavanaugh. That’s done.

They are now going to vote on a motion to delay the floor vote one week to let the FBI investigate, assuming this committee has the power. Regardless, it’s a powerful statement. Flake’s basically saying he could vote No on the floor without this FBI investigation.

OMG JEFF FLAKE:

I’m seeing it on twitter. Flake votes yes to move Kavanaugh out of committee but has “an understanding” that the floor vote will be delayed a week to allow an FBI investigation

it’s going to the floor. Up to McConnell to decide to wait or not.

There was no motion for the FBI, because the Jud Comt does not have the power to compel the floor vote to do that. It’s a request (a “gentleman’s agreement”). But wow! And now abruptly adjourned.

Damn you, vortex of false-optimism! Sucked in again! It’ll be a miracle if that week delay actually happens, but we can hope, and if it does, we can hope that a serious investigation is implemented, including getting Mark Judge on the record about their drinking habits and more.
