Can Democrats actually stop the nomination of Brett Kavanaugh?

Wait until someone’s tells him Gandhi shared a bed with underage girls.

The entire process has been a joke - theater, if you will. No reason to be surprised that this FBI “investigation” was the same.

The only hope was that things would appear bad enough that enough adults would stand up and say, “This isn’t right. Surely we can do better than putting THIS guy on the Supremes.” But - realistically - that is simply too much to ask for.

And I fear the real punch line will be next month, when Repub voters turn out in droves, and Dems stay home…

We have the government we deserve.

Moreover, even if the Repubs take a hit this go around, they have proven themselves adept at playing the long game. They’ve stacked the Supremes - a gift that will pay off for decades to come. And who knows how long RBG can hold out? Meanwhile, they control an overwhelming number of governorships and state offices - whose increased gerrymandering will be upheld by the Supremes.

The real dirt today is going to be on Facebook and Instagram, and short of a massive EMP attack that isn’t going away.

There was certainly the question from Kamala Harris (“Have you discussed the Mueller investigation with anyone at Kasowitz Benson Torres, the law firm founded by Marc Kasowitz, President Trump’s personal lawyer?” Harris asked. “Be sure about your answer, sir.”) that Kavanaugh was so evasive about. Harris clearly doesn’t have facts in hand, but she was playing the prosecutorial long game of forcing a defendant to perjure themselves under oath so that new charges can be brought later.

Yeah…to which McCain made a show of walking in the chamber, looking at McConnell and giving a thumbs down as a senate version of a “fuck you” to McConnell/Trump. Given that it would seem not toeing the line is a big deal in the senate and rarely done on big votes.

What? They don’t have copy machines at the FBI? Why the hell is there only one copy? Riduculous.

What? You didn’t read post 5,974? (Actually, the answer to your question is there.)

Jeffrey Toobin said it best on CNN: “In the US Senate, the woman always loses.”

I’m sure the FBI has any number of copy machines. The problem is, so does Dianne Feinstein.

[serious answer]This is SOP for this kind of thing. [/sa]

Oh well. Now we know that the FBI investigation the Dems wanted is a travesty of a mockery of a sham, because they didn’t interview Ford or Kavanaugh.

If only there were hours of sworn testimony from either of them - that might have helped.

Shodan

I read it, and reread. I get no explanation there. I opened the link, I am not reading all that. I just think it’s incredibly stupid that every member of the committee cannot get their own copy. If it’s a gag, it’s not funny.

How is Feinstein supposed to copy something she doesn’t have?

Being interviewed by the FBI is very different from giving testimony.

IIRC the FBI was taking a lot of heat about its actions lately, when it wasn’t clear anything was being done wrong.

This week though, something “wrong” is demonstrably occurring, and it can be detailed, investigated and prosecuted. I like Rod R. in his position at this moment, but he and wray and kavanaugh are fellow yale law alumni, and Federal Society members, as well as colleagues in republican political prosecutions.

I think this is the near future we should be considering.

This was the moment when he broke face for the first time in this process too.

“Kasoow…??” He feigned unfamiliarity with the name of the presidents lawyer and firm that his friend worked at. You could almost hear him mutter “Democrat!” under his breath at her.

Senator Heitkamp (D) is No.

A little less cover for them, but I’d be (pleasantly) gobsmacked if either Flake or Collins votes No.

I gently encourage you to stop accepting at face value the shit the Trumpians want you to consume, such as the underlying lie that Feinstein leaked anything. It’s a right wing talking point based on fuck-all as evidence.

They love to do this: Get you to accept the underlying “fact” as true, and then build their smears on that. When one of them makes such an assertion, require them to show proof of it and don’t take it on faith.

Feinstein maintains she leaked nothing, and the news outlet that received the Christine Blasey Ford leak confirmed that neither Feinstein or her staff were the source of the leak.

Breaking: Heitkamp is a no.

I still think Flake, Collins, Murkowski, and Manchin vote as a block, but I’m somewhat less convinced of that now. The outrage is through the roof and it will affect them all differently.

Really? I mean, seriously, honestly, really?

Because I saw a man without the temperament to serve effectively as a SCOTUS Justice. A man who expressly and clearly articulated his political biases. A man who was unwilling to present himself as fair, even-keeled, or thoughtful. An injudicious man.

I fucking despised Scalia. He was an asshole of the finest order, and I was more than once fundamentally enraged and outraged by his opinions and his philosophies. But I respected the fuck out of him, even when I disparaged him, because he knew how to keep his shit together.

Surely Americans can do better than this angry, petulant, arrogant, entitled, yelling and crying and patently political turd.

Surely the Republicans can do better.

I don’t think so, anymore. It’s all politics all the time, now. No institutional integrity, no respect for the rule of law, and the end always justifies the means. Always.
