Can Dr. Oz sink any lower?

If Jon Stewart had Jenny McCarthy on his show multiple times, failed to mock her stupidity, had in fact almost made a deal to give her her own talk show and in general treated her and the rest of her fellow quacks like thinking human beings deserving of a place at the table instead of defenders of contagious diseases and dumb ass ideas that they are, I would also hold him in vast contempt.

Happy now?

How about soda? Huh? How about fucking soda? Still wanna pretend he doesn’t shill poison?

Compare and contrast. Dr. Paul Offit, head of the Infectious Diseases Unit of the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. Developer of a vaccine that has literally helped save lives and prevent little kids from spending time in the hospital. All around cool guy and general credit to humanity. Author of multiple anti-woo books.

Can’t do a book tour:

Then we have Jenny McCarthy. Anti-vax moron who shills for e-cigs. She, of course can do a book tour for her ghost written shit:

It is people like Oprah who help enable this.

Let’s all get together and compare the harm of sugar and chips to the harm of the Secret. Just shut the fuck up already. “How can you defend her???” Turn down the outrage. She’s a talk show host. It’s ok to be a fan or not be a fan.

Oprah helps. Oprah gives a platform. Oprah has love in her eyes when she looks at McCarthy and that hypnotizes her audience!

What the hell?

You honestly don’t see a difference between someone like Jenny McCarthy literally telling parents to forgo protection against often deadly diseases like measles . . . and endorsing a sugary soft drink? Soda doesn’t carry a one in three chance of being hospitalized for complications and it damned well does not drastically increase a baby’s chance of getting SSPE after a bout of measles and then literally dying of encephalitis in their teens

Do you see me defending Jenny McCarthy? Or are you hoping I don’t notice you switched up names on people I am in this thread defending.

And why are you specifying what sugar doesn’t do? Couldn’t I counter with specifying all the shit that sugar DOES DO? Wow. This is what I call a struggle thread.

I had to check your join date - we Dopers can get apoplectic about anything! Anything, I say!

Has Jenny McCarthy ever been on Jon Stewart? Wait, let me re-phrase that…

Yup, that’s the same, too. Keep reaching.

By the way, huge HUGE difference between placing an ad on your show and sitting someone down ON the show to endorse it while you nod along and smile.

Hahaha. Yeah. There’s no difference. One is just slicker than the other.

You are defending Oprah and she has done much to further McCarthy 's career. If Oprah were a better person, she would do several shows to help promote an understanding of vaccines and help people figure out why woo is woo. Instead she invites the woo promoters on her show and provides them with a warm bath of adulation.

You then chide people who are irked with her because of it.

I’ve seen the Oz show a few times and it was all basic, sensible discussions of diet and health issues. Not something that could hold my interest, but I do remember Oz mentioning a few times that some of “remedies” being bandied about didn’t have any science behind them

So I read through this thread wondering what evil products Oz has been endorsing. Maybe I missed something, but it seems there aren’t any. If all he’s doing is giving woo-woo alternative theories airtime…and it’s not the basis of his medical philosophy…then so what?

And the whole “Oprah is a cunt and should die” nonsense. Yeesh. Get a grip.

So, I can’t seem to find this anywhere. When did Stewart do Oil of Olay commercials?

OK, now I genuinely have no idea what you’re talking about.

(Also, I am very disappointed to not be shown a video of Jon Stewart shilling skin cream, 'cause I’d seriously love to see that. You have both confused and disappointed me. I don’t like you Mr. Nzinga.)

I don’t even like Jon Stewart, but never have I known him to sit anyone down on his show and allow them to tell utter and complete lies about how good Coca-Cola is for you.

You can spin it however you like. But the fact is, your favorite celebrities are in the business of suckering gullible people out of their money. Their sponsors don’t give a fuck if people die of heart disease and your favorite star doesn’t sit down and make sure that all of his sponsors are shilling shit that isn’t really bad for you. People just think it is cooler to hate Oprah. I get it.

I don’t normally like to dox people, but clearly Nzinga is Gail King in real life.

Who are my favorite celebrities? If you think I’m going to defend Hollywood, you’ve got the wrong girl, I can assure you.

But I don’t really care about normal products, even if they aren’t good for you. Shilling pseudoscience and fake medicine is about 1000% more shady than selling sugary drinks.

Here, let me put it this way…let’s say I’m trying to sell you my beloved Coca-Cola. Tell me which of the following sales techniques is more reprehensible:

Option 1: Drink Coca-Cola – it’s delicious and refreshing!

Option 2: Drink Coca-Cola – it will cure your cancer!

Down to “Everyone else is doing it!!”, are we?
