Can Dr. Oz sink any lower?

It’s cool, Czarcasm, because apparently . . .

So, . . . it’s all cool.
[Except for saying “boo” to Jon Stewart. That is not cool.]

A simpler question for you, Nzinga… Do you see no difference between these two scenarios?

  1. I directly tell you not to take conventional cancer treatments.

  2. During a lull in a conversation between you and I, someone standing a few feet away mentions how much they like their skin cream.

Please do!

CMC fnord!

I have defended oprah. Not oz or Jenny McCarthy. So these comparisons don’t work.

Actually, we don’t have that. Not even close.

Was posting from phone. To everyone saying “YOU REALLY DON’T SEE A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN JOHN STEWART AND DR. OZ” type stuff. You are being obtuse on purpose. I have challenged people who pretend that Oprah has to ‘give a platform’ for only good for you shit, and not the flip side. If you go by that logic, you should condemn other celebrities whose livelihood depends upon sponsors who shill sugar and fat and salt and all the other things that are the real threat to people.

No. That’s an exercise in pointlessness. No one denies sugary sodas are a fucking cause of a ton of health problems.

. . . . . . Anyone?

After all the Zimmerman debating and you still don’t even know the difference between a defendant and a plaintiff? Dayum…

But… yes we do! He brought Mercola on his show to promote holistic medicine, including cancer treatments. In the segment itself, Dr. Oz hailed Mercola as pioneer, and said that he would show you “the treatments your doctors don’t want you to know about.” How is that NOT promoting woo over actual science in regards to cancer treatments?

This is the stuff Dr. Oz is tacitly promoting by bringing people like Joseph Mercola on his show and giving airtime to: A fungus among us in oncology? | ScienceBlogs

Did you know cancer is a fungus, apparently?

I’m wondering how Oprah has become the subject of this thread when it presumably should be Dr. Oz. Wasn’t he relatively sane when he first appeared on her show anyway? He didn’t start going woo until years into his own show. So how is Oprah responsible for this?

The network execs and the corporate sponsors who keep him funded are who keep this guy on the air. Yeah, I know, criticizing the invisible white guys in the room amounts to recreational outrage of the most mundane kind, but they have more to do with Dr. Oz at this point than some popular black lady.

[Disclaimer / lack of cool cred: I’ve never even seen The Daily Show even once. My exposure to John Stewart is only from his one Oscar stint.]

If I were someone who had the opportunity to influence people in any way, like when I’ve, say, run a therapy group, tutored kids, or helped coach a softball team, I would never, ever allow something (someone) to have a voice with me as the conduit that I felt was harmful. Now, perhaps that’s mothering / babying my audience, but I’ve always felt it’s my responsibility to make sure that nothing that looks like I endorse it (tacitly or not) promotes bad things for those I’m attempting to assist.

So, if I had a TV show, I would not of, say, had Fred Phelps on without seriously challenging his horrific views on homosexuality. I wouldn’t just let him come on and let him spout that a large part of the population is an abomination, that they’re mere existence will be everyone’s downfall and that all those heathens (and their supporters) are going to hell. That would be irresponsible at best.

However, maybe in this case, Oprah does to some degree believe what she puts on her show… it being why it’s there in the first place? And as such, that should then be judged on it’s on merits too. I just know that there’s no way that I would do the same thing (like have McCarthy as a guest with no opposition for her murdering anti-vax bullshit) and then try to tell people with a straight face that I’m simply providing a platform for all views, certainly not unchecked.

As to Oz, I steer clear of all that nonsense, so only tangentially know that he’s a woo woo shilling screwball. Other than that, I have no opinion except that all those folks are willing to sink as low as they can for gain (monetary, fame, etc).

Face, DON’T YOU GET IT! Oz tacitly allows his guests to push woo by passively giving a platform and Oprah was influential in getting Oz popular by allowing him a soap box. SO OPRAH IS THE DEVIL. Now, John Stewart is ENTIRELY DIVORCED FROM ANY UNHEALTHY BULLSHIT HIS SPONSORS PUSH. It’s clear as crystal, people!!!

You’re fucking unhinged. Take a breather and come back when you’ve got your shit together.

Yeah. I am totally foaming at the mouth with rage. Haha.

You’re starting to both sound and type like Stoid, so yeah.

Yep, it’s just because she’s black. You nailed it, as always. Gotta love that hammer.

It’s called sarcasm, dude. She wasn’t really yelling with those all caps and exclamation marks.

That shit doesn’t work on Stoid, so I don’t know why you think it works on me. Mocking your hypocritical ass with wild eyed caps does not equal enraged. But you know that. You just want to make sure the record shows that you are firmly aboard the anti Stoid train.
