# Can Fentanyl really kill you from touching/breathing it?

[A recent thread](https://boards.straightdope.com/t/severe-toxicity-from-casual-fentanyl-exposure/948186) discussing overreactions to fentanyl exposure.

In short, the expert consensus is that just touching the stuff or breathing in a room where fentanyl is present is _extremely_ unlikely to cause serious untoward reactions, much less kill you.
