Can his supporters explain why Iraq isn't just another GW Bush SNAFU?

It seems to me that GW has a history of screwing things up in business and then getting bailed out by people of competence who come in to protect their own interests. It might be happening again in Iraq. If that method could get us out of Iraq leaving some sort of order there I guess I could live with that. Then GW could go his happy, babbling way like Candide about what a wonderful world God has given us.

Local Marine commanders, probably a regimental commander (Colonel), are in the process of getting a local government security apparatus in Fallouja according to this story in the Los Angels Times. If this works it might be a way out by establishing a bunch of quasi-independed city governments with Iraqis in charge. We could then leave and let them figure out how to put them together in some sort of national framework that could do the needed tasks like getting a unified oil production and delivery system.

Also in the same paper there is an obscure story on an inside page about a small beginning of a movement to help GW plan a method of paying for the war without having to ask Congress for supplemental money before the election. GW, Rummy, et al have been reluctant to provide an estimate of probable costs or ask for money to make sure they are covered. Rep. Jerry Lewis (R, CA), chairman of the defense subcommittee of the House Appropriations Committee, is talking to other members about establishing a fund that the Aministration could draw on by merely asking Congressional appropriations leaders for approval while Congress is in recess this fall. This would avoid the possibility that GW would have to call Congress back for a special session if authorized money should run short at that time.

If you can just drag enough rich and powerful people into your schemes, they will see that your get along no matter how incompetent you are. I guess that’s one formula for success.
