I wouldn’t get too excited about these poll numbers. People are frustrated because they wanted less obstruction and more results. The Republicans have long been reluctant to compromise, but the Democrats need to get their party more unified too. The passing of an infrastructure bill is a big deal and if they can get shovels in the ground it might help somewhat. ---

Also, the question rarely includes what should be considered its essential second half: what track does the respondent think the country should be on? People who all think the country’s not on the right track may think that the “right track” is any of a dozen or more different directions, some of them heading strongly away from some of the others. ---
