Jesus H. Christ, **Elvis** and **county**. I only kinda sorta know who Euty is and certainly have no idea of where his politics lie. But I immediately got that he was being sarcastic. So you were whooshed. Why the big deal about it? Everyone gets whooshed from time to time; you do, I do, UncleBeer does. Usually when it happens to me I just say “oh, whoops!” or “oh, gee, how did I miss that?” you know? Why on earth are you guys bitching and moaning so much about it? You seem to have a damned lot of your personal self-worth invested in whether or not you properly understood a single silly little one-off post on a message board … ---

Until **Euty** clarifies what he meant, the question is open, isn’t it? One would certainly like to think that no one could consider a blowjob and a war on the same scale, but, spend enough time in GD and you’ll see that sentiment expressed by people with even more thoughtfulness than **Druncle**. Usually, though, it’s calling Bush’s actions “leadership” and Clinton’s “criminal”. Yes, it should be a whoosh, but no, that isn’t the default explanation. So, **county** , to answer your OP question, no, you \*can’t \* get a fuckin’ break. ---

So I was going to sit down and type out a carefully worded explanation of my thoughts and reasonings using ontological arguments and careful application of Godel’s Incompleteness Theorem, but at this point all I can think of to say is “bite me.” ---

And forgive me for flogging the hamsters over something as inane and trivial as this, but in my opinion Elvis has all the intellectual of honesty of say, Ken Lay, or that HealthSouth CEO scuzball who’s transformed himself into a televangelist. Clinton was pretty well paralysed, politically speaking, for much of his. Which is probably a big shame for all those he could have given a life changing break to. In short, what-could-have-beens actually became three years of Democratic policy down the crapper, taking with it whatever Clintons Big-Legacy–Idea might have been (you know how they like those). Second, for a ‘war’ you need two sides; not one side and a bunch of party political die-hards – which is all Saddam had once the enlisted evaporated and the Republican Guard disappeared (almost as soon as the shooting started). It wasn’t a ‘war’ within terms I readily understand because the military and civilian population were almost entirely apathetic. Is this kind of thing a lot of fun for all of you? One side pointing indignant fingers at “arrogant conservatives” and the other sneering at “knee-jerk liberals”? Does this solve a lot of problems? Does it answer the OP’s question, or even address it in any way? I ask because, now that I’ve (somehow) read this entire thread, it’s totally fucking obvious that both sides came into this with brittle tempers ready to misread any possible rhetorical device to suit their own biases. No one’s even pretending to fight ignorance, and everyone’s trotting out the same arguments they’ve repeated a thousand annoying times on this very topic. Way to go, folks. I expect this bullshit on C-SPAN and in everyday conversation, but not on SDMB; not even in the Pit. What a fucking waste of time. ---
