They let her have some Jello this morning and it didn’t stay. Not much progress today, she has a lot of nausea and abdominal pain again. ---

My sister called me at work today so I wouldn’t be blindsided with the news. Mom had the special scan on her lung, the one with the “shadow”. It’s lung cancer. Proving non-smokers can get it too. I don’t know what the treatment will be, but Mom did speak of losing her hair.☹ Maybe it got caught early enough to be dealt with. ---

OK, I’ll give you a limerick, or two, although if you’re a fan you probably know them. A forgetful old gasman named Dieter, Who went poking around his gas heater, Touched a leak with his light; He blew out of sight— And, as everyone who knows anything about poetry can tell you, he also ruined the meter. There was a young couple from Delhi Who got stuck belly to belly Because in their haste They used library paste Instead of petroleum jelly. ---

(I’m not a Doctor…but I do have lots of friends and family who have dealt with Cancer) Aww crap. I have a good handful of stories about various cancers, but none of the lung cancer ones have good outcomes. BUT as I understand it…and this is important in your Mom’s case - one of the big contributing factors to the problems with treating lung cancer is it’s almost never diagnosed early. The symptoms that cause a patient to seek help don’t tend to show themselves until it’s too late. Finding it as an incidental finding after other work may actually turn out to be lucky. ---

The mundane part for me to add is my Great Uncle Andy and his son (Little Andy) were both diagnosed with late-stage really advanced cancer and given basically a year. Uncle Andy went on for another 22+ years and Cousin Andy better than 16. Basically I’m saying that where there’s life there is hope. Both did the normal treatments but both did something odd I sometimes think helped - they would draw or visualize the cancer and then destroy the pictures or imagine themselves destroying it. The second half of this is get in close contact with your docs and follow up taking care of yourself. I’ve lived too many times where the “sick person” survived or even thrived and the care-giving family members ended up with heart attacks and other serious problems. I love your mom for what she means to you but I love you as well for what you mean to all of us Dopers. So you take care and when you call on us for prayers, feel free to ask for a little strength for yourself. Hugs and prayers continue for you all. ---

My dad worked with a guy named One Lung. I’m guessing that is not his Christian name, and at some point he lost a lung. Maybe to lung cancer. But he lost that lung and was able to come back and work and get the nickname One Lung. So he had that going for him. Good luck to you both. Stay strong - when you can. ---
