Well, yesterday my mother went to the oncologist for a discussion about the stage of her lung cancer, and what treatment she’d have. Seems we’ll wait some more. The doctor wants to do another biopsy next week, on the “spots” seen on her spleen. They could just be some kind of infection or other irritation, but the guy wants to be sure. Then it will be a week to a new discussion. The doctor says he’s never seem lung cancer metastasize to the spleen, in which case the lung cancer would be stage one. Then again it could be a second kind of cancer, in which case we’d be looking at stage three. Doc says if Mom was younger/stronger he’d recommend surgery on the lung, but she’s not, and in any case wants no surgery. So in about three weeks my mother will begin radiation treatment, which we are told has a 60% c hance of giving her another five years. She’s still in rehab but looks much better. She may go home next week, following a home health evaluation. ---

My mother went home from rehab yesterday. Next week she will begin radiation therapy for the lung cancer. The doctor decided to put off doing a biopsy of the spots on her spleen. She’s so very happy to be home. My sisters and I are doing her shopping and will take care of almost all the housework. We will drive her to her radiation treatments as well. She doesn’t feel up to going to church on Sunday yet, and is bummed that the senior pastor at her church has made an announcement he has leukemia. Damn cancer, it’s everywhere. ---

Boy, **Baker** , one thing after another. I’m so glad your mom is home and I bet she is too. You guys definitely deserve a few months or years of uneventful no-crisis time. I’m sending all the karma I can find to help that happen. ---

I’ll try a bad joke, actually it’s a play on a nursery rhyme: Mary had a little sheep, and with her sheep she went to sleep. I wanted to post an update. As of a week ago my mother had completed three weeks of radiation treatments. In a month or so she will go back for more exams, to see how well, or if, the treatments worked. She’s at home, feeling fine. But she has had more frequent migraines. Been cleared to drive, so my sisters and I don’t have to do all the shopping or shuttling, although we were glad to. I’m sure that the prayers and good wishes helped. I’m keeping my fingers crossed the radiation worked. ---
