Sorry for the hijack, but threads like this catch my eye since I’m trying to reclaim my yard. How do poppies fair against things like cheatgrass (bromus tectorum) and goatheads (tribilus terrestris)?
Do they spread out on their own, meaning if I plant some here this year, will there be some next to it next year?
I think they have deep roots, and do better in the ground than in pots.
A week and a half after potting the seeds, there is an abundance of seedlings. I recall reading reviews on Amazon a couple of years ago, people complaining that only a small percentage of seeds germinated. It looks like either they were unlucky, or I was lucky. I don’t know whether these seeds are perennial or annual, and I don’t know where I’m going to transplant the plants. I thought about putting them beside the driveway, but then I’d have no place to shovel snow in Winter. There are a couple of other places I might put them, but those places do not receive a great amount of sun. We’ll just see how it goes. I’m hoping for some nice, bright orange California poppies.
