# Can I retrieve unsaved discussions in AIM?

Pretty much what it says in the title. I got off AOL IM last night, and neglected to save a session I should have saved. Is there any way I could retrieve the lost discussion, or am I outta luck?

I strongly doubt it.

That is precisely why I have [DeadAIM](http://www.jdennis.net/DeadAIM/screenshots.php), however. I don’t checked the archives that often, but they’re good for settling arguments. The tabbed windows are another thing I can’t live without, for which I would pay $5 and did.

[A google search for **AIM logging**](http://www.google.com/search?q=aim+logging) should find some other programs similar to deadAIM, if you want to look around a little. But I wouldn’t be surprised if you found that deadAIM turned out to be the best.

DeadAIM is one of the programs out there. It’s hardly the best though. It might have gained this in the last few months, but I think it still only logs chats after you close the window. So if your computer crashes in the middle of a chat, or after people message you while away, you won’t save those messages.

[Middle\_man](http://middleman.krunchsoftware.com/competition.php) has a little page showing some of the more popular AIM add-ons that do various things. You can check out each of those and see which one suits you.
