Can he do that? [Check this out](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?threadid=156290) I mean, sure, the thread was degenerating into a flame war about bussing tables and such and how the world was divided into two types of people, those that bus and those that didn’t… But swearing, in GQ? Seems a bit on the over-reacting side if you ask me. Why didn’t Manhatten just move the thread? Did you have a bad day? Can Manhattan swear closing a thread in GQ? Can he ever! He’s the rootenist, tootenist, cursengist moderator we’ve got. You walk down the streets of GQ, and you’d swear there was a sailor’s convention in town. He walks on the lawn muttering under his breath and the grass dies. He’s been thrown out of biker bars for lowering the atmosphere. A man from “Websters Dictionary of English Profanities” follows him around to add to the book. When he was a kid, New York City suffered a soap shortage You bet he can swear! He can swear real good! ---

I felt the same way the first time I saw HBO programming, too. Personally, I don’t know who I find more annoying-- slobs who can’t be bothered to take their meal-leavings that whole ten feet to the trash bin, or microcephalent twerps with no regard for forum rules. I suppose it’s context-sensitive-- the former are more offensive when I’m trying to find a garbage-free place to eat my lunch-substitute, and the latter when I’m feeding my SDMB addiction. **Manhattan** ’s invective was appropriate, and, if anything, understated-- after all, sometimes nobody gives a flying fuck about your opinions the \*non-\*factual fora. Yes, he can. I noticed also that he was not directing his words to a specific user, but there were many there that forgot the forum name. I opened this expecting that it was because he closed the 1000th gry word thread! Now, swearing there would have been more appropriate! ---

All I can say is that if **Duck duck Goose** saw that thread (maybe she did and was sitting on her hands to avoid jr modding) she would’ve been much nicer about reminding folks in that thread to follow the SDMB rules and move their argument to another forum. ---
