One of the few times I got in trouble while I was in the Navy was from a nasty sunburn. I had just been transferred to San Diego (sunny most of the time) from Whidbey Island (sun? we don’t need no stinking sun). Too late in the day after spending a day at the beach I realized I had a nasty sunburn. The next morning I reported to work and went straight to sick bay. I was given a can of Bactine and a note to report to Captain’s Mast that afternoon. The Captain thankfully was a nice guy and suggest the pain of going through the sunburn was enough punishment but suggested a second time would result in a much more severe penalty.
I’m fairly certain there’s a bit more–charge sheet, rights acknowledgement, XOI, etc.–before an NJP hearing.
This subject has been brought up in a previous thread, I’m thinking sometime in the last year.
I’m not able to take the time to search right now. Anyone?
As many have said, you won’t get court martialed. But while at the Presidio of Monterey, back in 1975, my roommate got a severe sunburn after a day at the beach in Carmel. She was, by doctor’s orders, off duty for two days. Lorrie wasn’t court-martial, but she got an official reprimand in her file and a royal reaming out from the CO.
She didn’t really care, the captain was an asshole. As conformist and rules abiding as I was in those days, I hated him too. But that’s another story.
There’s this post.
