It doesn’t have to be anything more than a funny quote, link, whatever. I lost my job almost two weeks ago and my last pay check will be this Friday, ergo, no pay, no insurance. My rent-paying son is also newly unemployed. I turned 49 today and nobody remembered. I am trying to stay out of the dumps as I have interviews lined up (which is a good thing, obviously). But any other way to cheer me up? I am easily amused. ---

Hmm, I suggest a dose of [lolcats](http://icanhascheezburger.com/category/birfday/) , stat. I also notice that you have not ventured into this weeks [MMP](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=457326) . I know it’s kind of big and scary, but just jump in and say hi. Plenty of hugs there. Sure they kicked me out last week, but they’re generally a bunch of nice people (hint: anyrose and HazelNutCoffee are secret lovers, don’t tell) Fun fact: Mel Blanc (the voice of Bugs Bunny) was allergic to carrots. Oh, and tomorrow is my birthday. If it will make you feel better I will turn off my phone, lock the door, and not check my email. We can have a pity party! ---

Today is my birthday, too! So it should cheer you up to know that you share a birthday with one of the most awesome people on the planet 😃 Watch Jerry Springer and Maury. Then you will realize that no matter how bad you think things are going for you right now you could never ever be nearly as pathetic as those people. (well, it works for me) If none of that helps. Always look on the bright side of life… - you and your son now unemployed: you have someone to keep you company, you both have someone to review/critique your resumes - you both have someone to pump each other up for interviews. - you are now unemployed: you now have the free time to do all those little things you’d been wanting to do. Clean out the garage, clean out your closets, etc. (and you have your son available to help you) - you are now unemployed, but you have interviews set up already. - you turned 49 (congratulations, BTW, I turned 49 also this year) and nobody noticed: after the huge guilt trip you will lay on your friends/family, they won’t dare miss your big 50th next year - and it will be a whopper ! Well my sons just surprised me with a seven-disk set of I Love Lucy, and it includes the episode about the Vitameatavegamin (sp?) which is the absolute funniest episode ever! I am feeling much better. Thanks everyone! We are going to watch at least that episode. Take care all! ---
