Can someone explain this scene in Apocolypse Now?

You just need the right kind of board, although they’re called “Skateboards” when on land. They even have a version of the design for off-road work.

It was most definately an armed village. I think the point of Kilgore’s scene is that the war is clear-cut and “easy” in the begining. It’s Us vs. Them and you know who to shoot. The village was known to be a hostile target and could be easily targetted and attacked. After that, things go like msmith537 describes.

“Civilian?” They had heavy machine guns set up as AA, a woman grended a dust-off chopper, and there were dozens of AKs being fired. That village was a legitimate target.

A minor nitpick, but Kilgore doesn’t napalm the vilage IIRC, he napalms the treeline outside the village.

I concur. I’d like to add something to this thread, but it’s already been said.
