Ah. Your problem is that you bought a Weeble Medium size. Sorry about that.
Our measurements are “set” by the simple expedient that the “36” means inches, and inches have been set for centuries. That 32 inseam? It’s 32 inches. Pretty simple, really.
However, women seem to not like buying clothes based upon actual measurements (or clothesellers are loathe to put them on them for fear of losing sales), therefore y’all get the “size 5” crapola.
I have no idea why there isn’t rioting in the streets, but there ya have it.
Well, the thing of it was that I was trying to find pajamas that were designed for sleeping, rather than (ahem) other night-time activities.
I bought her some of the other sort of night wear, and it was even worse. I finally found some that didn’t look trashy, and it fit the upper body like a tourniquet and the lower half like a tent. And I returned it and got another one. The clerk was no help, she was too used to dealing with men who just wanted to grab whatever was closest and get out of the store. And the darn thing was too tight all over. Finally tLATMS had to shop for it herself, which rather ruins the surprise.
She sure does look nice in what she found, though.

Shodan
I agree that this might be the thought behind why. Unfortunately for them, some of us women (not enough, I suppose) get so pissed off we walk out without buying Anything!
I was in a store this morning that sells food and clothing, looked at the clothes, and said, “Screw it. I’m not prepared today to Do Battle with The Clothes,” and stuck to the groceries.
That’s how it works on me too. I’m in desperate need of clothes, and I can afford them, but I don’t have endless time and patience and inclination to go through all the hard work of actually buying them.
My sister has an old pair of jeans (her favorites) that have 28" on the tag for the waist measurement. She used to be able to buy clothes tagged with measurements. Not so in the past 10 years.
My girlfriend buys only men’s jeans because she can look at the waist and inseam measurements.
