More than you. Look, Chirac is the most inept politician in modern history. He is, fankly, stupid. He let Mitterand play him like a fiddle, and now he’s pissed away the olympics. Paris will get them 4 years later, in 2016, after this big bozo is gone. The 2012 olympics were his to lose, and he lost them. Just like he’s lost every other challenge that’s come to him. I think Chirac is onto something. Everyone knows that the whole reason for the British Empire was that they were scouring the globe in search of a good meal. And the prevalence of outstanding Indian restaurants in London attests to their success. 🙂 ---

I like French cuisine, especially in the Normandy area. I also love the cooking that is coming out of England too. The is one restaurant in Paris I think of as wonderful - L’Entrecote at La Defense. But otherwise I have been singularly unimpressed with that city’s offerings. London on the other hand is a gastronomic paradise, if you can afford it. Friends of mine who cooked always told me that after the French Revolution, there was such a fall in demand for cooks in France the good ones all ended up in England, meaning that if you wanted good French food, you had to be in Britain. Classic English cuisine is having a revival with people like Gary Rhodes. But I love the way English food has always been about fusion. Consequences of Empire I guess. ---

They were part of breakfast at most of the bed & breakfasts I stayed at (one was a non-pork b&b right before I left the UK). So, in various parts of England (including London, Bath, Cornwall, and Durham), Wales, and Scotland, breakfast included mealy sausages. One or two expatriate Brits here in the states tell me that yes, breakfast sausage in the UK has a grain in it. So, I ignore the sausage and eat bacon, instead. MmmmmmmmmMMMM! English bacon! ---
