Just as I have found no compelling evidence to continue any belief in the Christian God, so there is also no compelling evidence for the existence of the personal devil, Satan. sorry, “biblical principal?” are you serious, Cyrin? Most, well at least many, (is that an oxymoron? at least many? hmm?) atheists read the bible. this is b/c we get sick of the “it’s in the bible” nonsense Fundies seem so anxious to spout. Now, by Biblical principal, what principal are you speaking of? There are so many I get confused; false prophecy? endorsing slavery? condemning innocent children to a “furnace of fire”? the art of contradiction? But these truths are only apparent for those who’ve REALLY SEARCHED, otherwise you just won’t know. oh, we could go on and on, but rather than do that, I’m just going to leave since the sheeps clothing has come off and underneath stands Senor Fundie and his poorly trained Mariachi band. Just wait till the day when the great Pink Unicorn materializes and punishes us all for our arrogance and insistence that our beliefs were right. It _could_ happen. Think about it. It’s possible, just not probable. I think that’s what this thread is all about. Each religion, or non-religion, is just as ignorant as any of the others. And whoever disagrees with me is a dumbass\*. \*The first principle of either side of “religious” debates. ---

Does it surprise you to know that I too, for many, many years thought any rejection of the faith was impossible for me? I was determined to “finish the race”. Have you ever looked into why you even run the race in the first place? I mean _really looked_ ? ---

My parents took me to church every week till I was 14. I went to a Christian School, and won the Religious Prize. I’ve read the Bible quite a bit. I lead a decent life. When I was 14, I asked my Sunday School teacher what proof there was of God. (He was a pleasant man, whom I respected) He told me there was no proof - it was a matter of faith. So I opened my heart to God … and nothing happened. SO I’m an atheist, **who has searched for God**. And my reasons for not believing seem a lot more convincing than the counter-proposal that ‘having an uncle ring unexpectedly’ somehow proves the existence of a Divine Being. ---

Also, once you do that be sure to look up the original texts and their Hebrew meanings, the English language is rather limited and it often becomes difficult to infer the intent of the speaker in the translated version. As to your previous post, ok sure there is a contradiction, IF you take “judge” to mean “believe something and apply it to my judgement”. When I refer to “judge lest not ye be judged”, I mean, pass Judgement on any person or persons or condemn them. Anywho, it’s been a riot y’all (I’m Canadian so I hope that’s spelt right) but I have to leave work now so if things are still burning strong tomorrow, rest assured I’ll be back! 😉 ---

my point with the hosea quote was simply that the bible is full of nonsense. and the literal translation is not much different Hosea 1:2 The commencement of Jehovah’s speaking by Hosea. And Jehovah saith unto Hosea, ‘Go, take to thee a woman of whoredoms, and children of whoredoms, for utterly go a-whoring doth the land from after Jehovah.’ ---
