Can the US president carry a weapon?

Yeah, I don’t know. Probably just made him feel better. Would likely be of almost no use in an actual assassination scenario as you point out, and even if it were, “Would-be Assassin Shot Dead by President Reagan” would be a rather ridiculous sounding headline.

Wrong.

It would make for an attention-grabbing headline and some terrific television.

For those of you who haven’t figured it out yet, those are the only things that matter to him.

He didn’t. But it made Nancy feel better. I don’t know, but strongly suspect, that the bullets were not inside the gun while he carried it either.

Are you speaking of Reagan or Trump? I never thought Mr. Reagan was a good President, but I knew the man, and he meant to be a good one. When he talked about compassionate conservatism he was quite sincere. He definitely thought doing right by the unemployed was more important than any personal gain.

Now, if you meant President Trump, I agree. “Personal Branding” for him was not just a means to gain the Presidency; it was and is the only point.

Political potshots are not permitted in GQ. No warning issued, but let’s drop the subject of Trump unless it is established that he actually carries a weapon.

Note also that this thread was started in 2006 and the original subject was G.W. Bush.

“Mommy, was the combination on my briefcase 1-2-3 or 3-2-1?”

According to the linked article, Nancy did *not *like it.

Very strange. I know who to ask, let’s see if I can get an answer. . .

Yes’m. Sorry about that, I didn’t notice the forum.
