Can Uber/Lyft drivers pick up kids from school and be paid 'remotely'?

Thanks for the suggestions, everyone. Unfortunately, none of the kid-focused rideshare companies have a presence in the local area.

Short-term solution will be for me to take the Thursday drives. My employer is fine with it … it was just that our original plan was that I wouldn’t be using our shared car on Thursdays.

So, as I now use our car on Thursdays to accommodate this school pickup … the domino effect is that my wife will have to stay at her job an extra 15-30 minutes on Thursdays, waiting for me to get over there and pick her up. Not the worst trade-off.

I’m curious how you did this. When you sign up as a driver for one of these companies, I assume you have to tell them the details of your car. So if you registered with your own car, why the rental? Or did you register with a friend’s car?

I got a rental for the simple reason I needed to make a $1k/week and did not want to use my personal vehicle. I didn’t change the details of my vehicle with Lyft/Uber, I just texted each passenger the same text - car in shop, using loaner tonight, look for a…, thanks for your patience! - and picked them up.

He got away with it because no one complained to Uber or Lyft about it. The main, really only, enforcement mechanism Lyft and Uber have is rider feedback.

Thanks. I’m glad you were able to make it work despite being unemployed.

Well, maybe not the FIRST kid… but it’ll probably happen eventually.

Enjoy,
Steven

ETA: Not sure how I did this, but the first one is from an incident in November of 18 and the other is from 2015. So it’s taking longer than we thought.

Enjoy,

This.

My 14-15 year old daughter frequently took Uber. Only during the day time and only on known trips. She was logged into my account- with a man’s name (and picture?) and just used the feminized form of my name when checking with the driver. (Think James - Jamie) As she had an iPhone, I was able to track her the entire time.

She tipped afterwards and after her 30? rides, my rating was still 4.98 so no driver seemed to ever mind or downgrade her experience, and I have to agree that everyone turned a blind eye. She used my account so that no driver would ever know her phone number. We also had her always dropped off at her “Home” which was a neighbor’s house who was always home so that there was never a real address associated with her either.

0 problems. She wore headphones and never spoke to the driver. If anything it made her too comfortable with the world!
