# Can we move on to a new "age" please?

Because, honestly, we’ve been stuck in the “space-age” now for, what, 50 years? Isn’t the “space-age” just about getting ready for retirement already? I mean, it’s had a good run at all, but really, I think it’s just about run its course. Over the years we’ve had such wonderful inventions as space-age design, space-age polymers, space-age tupperware, space-age cutlery – even now, with those new-fangled beds and their space-age memory foam. Enough already! It has become a cheap joke! The words “space-age” still bring to mind bizarre architecture, talking appliances and The Jetsons. Face it. The space-age is getting terribly long in the tooth. Isn’t it just about time we elect a new age? Maybe a younger, hipper, more with-it age?

Just because something refers to “Space-Age” materials or the like, does not mean that Marketing things we are still IN the Space-Age. Just means that the material comes from it. Sort of like buying Vintage silverware or something.
I agree, we are in the Digital Age now, and have been since around '95 or so. I doubt very many people consider ourselves in the Space age, even those advertising items made with Space-Age material. Hell, we use stuff every day that is “Dinosaur age” stuff, but you don’t seriously think we are still IN that age, do you?

With the movement in the direction of celebrity worship grerater than it’s ever been, I suggest the Stage Age. Movie stars, supermodels, rock stars, celebrity politicians, TV personalities. About the only export bringing in really big money these days is entertainment related stuff.
Maybe the iPod Age or the Cell Phone Age.
How about the Junk Food Age?

In memory of my father, who had this answer to the same question: “Son, we are living in the _Wonder Age_.” I doubt if he meant it. If he were alive today, I doubt he’d mean it now. But it’s a _hopeful_ thing to tell people, especially the very young.

I know this is kind of a joke thread, but it seems that 50 years is not too long a time to be in an age. The Industrial Age went from 1750 to the beginning of the Space Age, correct? And the Bronze Age encapsulated centuries. I think we should wait at least 100 years before declaring a new age. By then there might be even more scientific advancements, so it can be the Nano Age or the Bioengineering Age or something. I just don’t want the civilization chart to get too confusing.

Yep, dirty old stuff. If it was new stuff, OTOH, it would vibrate, know when you were waking up, tell the coffee pot to start your coffee, start your computer and download all the news clips. Then it would play music to wake you up, and tell you the weather forcast.
Stupid Space age foam has nothing. NOTHING I tell ya!

Each age is shorter than the preceding one. In the future, we will wake up in one age, have lunch in another and go to bed in a third.
