# Can we talk about socks?

I wear sandals for as long as I can get away with it. But it’s dipping into the 40s here and time for this old lady to once again embark on her annual quest for Good Socks.\* I want socks that are seamless, truly seamless-- no little knots, knobs, or decorative bumps to irritate my very sensitive toes. I want them to be thin, not bulky. People have told me that I want merino wool–do I? I’d rather not pay $20+ for one pair of socks, if possible. I do walk every day, but it’s not like there’s snow here or anything. If it snows, I’ll walk at the mall. I don’t hike. At home around the house and around The Home, I wear my Glerups-- these are the only shoe/slipper-like footwear that truly keep my feet warm and dry. Angels make them in heaven, I’m sure of it. But for my actual serious walking I need to wear real shoes. And real socks. If you can provide an amazon (or other link) so much the better. Thank you.

TMI: Quite a few old ladies here at The Home have stopped wearing bras. I haven’t fallen that far yet, nor will I let my boobs fall that far. The quest continues.

I search and search and find the odd sock, (sorry no brands)that _feel_ right.
Bombas are really nice, I mean nice socks. Expensive and not very durable without shoes on.
Look for mens dress socks(thinness) you might find white ones.

Costco has very good merino wool socks.

While looking for a pair of thin socks I ran across [bamboo fiber socks](https://www.amazon.com/SERISIMPLE-Colored-Anti-Odor-Lightweight-Assorted/dp/B076C8HR7M?ref_=ast_sto_dp&th=1&psc=1). I bought three pair. They’re very lightweight, very comfortable, but they’re wearing out at the toes much faster than either my all-cotton socks or my synthetic lightweight dress socks.
However, I have weird toes. The socks might work better for you.

It is well within the realm of plausibility that once you find your dream socks for comfort, there will still be the problem of keeping your toes warm. For this, I would be so bold as to recommend thermal socks and placing them over the dream comfort socks for a truly exquisite warm cozy double sock experience.

I have had success with Gold Toe socks. They make a number of different styles but I prefer the classic turn cuff socks.
They are not too thick, wear well, and aren’t too tight on my legs. They are not expensive and sometimes I get them on sale.
I only buy them at a local department store but they are available online. Socks are something I have to try on.
I buy a lot of them and rotate wear and have yet to get any holes in them. Even some of my many years old ones are still serviceable although they are a bit faded and the elastic is slightly worn. I wear the old ones around the house.

My experience is they wear like iron. Warm, too.

As to whether or not they are seamless the ones I buy I think have seams but I believe I saw some seamless ones in the store. I’ll look around online to see what I can find.
Could not find seamless ones although it states that they are in the search results!

I have a set of Merino _blend_ socks, about 30%, with the rest being the various man-made fabrics that make socks easy on normal life and the wallet.

I do enjoy them in the colder weather, and they’re a lot more supportive and closer in fit then some of the one size fits most all wool socks I’ve had in the past. My wife uses the same Costo socks mentioned by @running_coach and likes them, but finds them a bit thin for optimal foot warmth. Though… it’s a bit colder here in Colorado than at the Home. 😉

1.Things I need.
2. Things I don’t need.
3. Things I don’t need but I want.
4. Things I didn’t know I need until now.

I am at Costco. I found the socks. Alas, they are not seamless. The package says, “smooth finish toe seam.” ☹ I’m not sure whether to try them or not…

I just checked my socks(both the ones I’m wearing and an unopened package) for a toe seam. I never noticed the seam, it _is_ flat and out of the way.

I hate toe seams, too. Here are the only socks I buy, precisely because there are no toe seams (or if there are, they are absolutely flat and undetectable):

Yep, they’re athletic socks. They’re very well-made and worth every penny. This link is to their trail-running socks, just as a starting point. They make wool and synthetic socks, but I find the synthetics to be plenty warm enough for me. They even make compression socks, should that start becoming an issue.
