# Can You Recommend A Good Combination Walking/Running Shoe?

I am currently walking at a paced of 4.5 MPH, and I plan to gradually increase my speed until I am Power Walking and then begin jogging again. Can y’all please recommend a shoe that will give me the best of both worlds and won’t cost an arm and a leg?

4.5 mph? Dude, you’re hauling ass! 🙂

If you’re walking that fast, you’re better off forgetting about walking shoes and looking at running shoes instead.

I do an hour of walking at about 3.8-4.2 mph daily. I have a pair of New Balance running shoes, which I got from my neighborhood Sports Authority for about $80. It’s the most I’ve ever spent on a pair of shoes, athletic or dressy, but they’re definitely worth the price. When I take my shoes off post-walk, my feet feel just as good as they did before I put them on.

Whatever shoe you get, make sure they fit width-wise as well as lengthwise. And make sure you’ve got about an inch of flex-room at the toes. Good fit’s the most important thing.

I also was going to recommend **New Balance** running shoes. Make sure that you do _not_ get “cross-trainers.” Very bad.
