Maybe she’s never seen one and has a mental picture that suggests to her that they’d be more difficult than they actually are? That’s an odd way for her to put it though that she “didn’t know how to use one”. Perhaps she merely meant that she hadn’t ever done it.
I haven’t used one for years, but I think I could still manage if I had to.
