Sometimes, on a busy thread, posts come in every few minutes. If I post to a thread, and I’d like to wait and see if anyone responds to my post, how is that done? I have the impression that, once you’ve opened a thread, no new posts appear unless you close that thread and come back.

You could just reload the page. (Not quite the same as closing and reopening – just refresh the page in your browser.)

You can subscribe to the thread, which will notify you via email when there are new replies to it. You can have an email sent to you immediately, for fast-moving threads, or daily or weekly for less active threads.

There’s also the “Subscribe to thread” feature, where you get an email notification when a new post comes in.
