# Canadian strategic reserve: maple syrup

Thought this was an Onion article when I first saw the headline.

Next we’re going to find the Maine has a strategic tooothpick reserve. (Maine produces about 95% of our toothpicks.)

I first learned of the maple syrup reserves when [someone stole several thousand tons of the stuff about a decade ago](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Canadian_Maple_Syrup_Heist).

Reminds me of a quote from an old Dave Barry article: “Perhaps you didn’t think we had a strategic feather reserve. Perhaps you are a fool.”

Don’t get your dander up, I’m not saying you are a fool. That just happens to be the quote.
