The 80th anniversary of the Liberation of the Netherlands has come.

Canadian WWII vets, mostly centenarians, are getting a warm welcome from the Dutch.

And a Dutch soccer team is recognizing Canada’s military on their jerseys this year.

There were like 21 Vets there, that’s way more than I imagined it could be. And the Dutch provided each with two medical attendants. During the ceremony the head fellow, stopped the proceeding dead, so the vets could be moved from the now direct sunshine into the shade of the trees! It was clear they had planned for everything. It was very moving to watch.

There is an ongoing project to learn histories of, and get a photo of, every Canadian serviceman buried in the war cemetery. A face to a name as it were.
