Funny how Canada never places in the top countries for joie de vivre or cultural heft. Does our culture depends on outdated tropes - mediocre coffee and donuts, Bob and Doug, Wayne and Shuster?
I’m afraid i had the same reaction. After the May-Johnson trajectory to implement Brexit, a methodology that said the UK’s governance has improved is, well, let’s just say, suspect.
Instead of squandering page after page on jounalistic bloat, I’d like to see how the other 40 countries ranked. I can read data tables myself.
I had a slightly tipsy manager talk to me a few months ago and thank me for always doing a specific part of my job. This baffles me as hello! part of my job, but I said “but I hate having to call you at 3 or 4 am about police/medical/fire emergencies”. Him " why?" Me: well, I’m from Wisconsin and we feel bad about these things". Him: “Wisconsin? I’m from Canada! Wisconsin! Canada! We’re practically the same people!” So, you’re basically Wisconsin.
You could make half a case that the most Canadian Canadian is Nick Nurse. Who isn’t Canadian at all. Midwesteners do indeed have much in common with Canucks.
And I consider myself blessed to have so much in common with my “Nebraska Nice” Canadian neighbors. One of the nicest things anyone ever said about me.
