Shortly after my wife expelled the placenta from the birth of my first child, the Obstetrician asked if I’d like to see it. “Sure!”, I said. He brought it - all [veiny, pinkish grey and shiny](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Placenta#/media/File:Human_placenta_baby_side.jpg), over to where I was standing and pointed out various features. It was fascinating and I asked several questions. One question which never came to my mind was “What are the virtues of corn meal vs. flour breading?”. ---

If you’re making placenta fritters, you use cornmeal. And of course, there is the wonder that is placenta and grits. ---
