Cancelling an event without refunding ticket purchases

Many, many years ago, there was a popular product that had a large rebate attached to it ($150 or so). The forum I frequented had a constant stream of new members signing up and posting that they never got their rebate. In all the cases I saw, one of the mods (who were employees of the company) would push the rebate through.

In those discussions I learned that there are businesses dedicated to handling rebates and one of the metrics they use when selling their services is the percentage of rebates they deny. IIRC, this rebate company was doing things like denying rebates because you filled it in with a blue pen but the directions said “use black ink” or denying perfectly valid rebates in hopes that the person would forget about it (but I’m fuzzy on the details this was nearly 20 years ago).

I will pass the information on.

So if you’re working to contact the media to ask them to put updated information, why hasn’t anyone put the information on refunds up on the skullandroses website? That seems the simplest and most effective way to start the process. I’d bet the media would be more likely to update their stories if refund information showed up there.

That’s one of many things that would help. I have nothing to do with the webpage and have no control over it. That suggestion has been made. I have no affiliation with EB in any way.

I pay for my ticket every year and took on a volunteer role because they needed the help and I had time. Most people said “fuck this” and walked away when it all went down. We all loved this fest and believed in it and all five of the previous ones have been a great time. We are all incredibly disappointed and upset.

The only thing that I can do is educate people on how to get their funds back. I have made probably approaching a thousand posts on various social media trying to get the word out. There are five us doing the bulk of this work on a completely volunteer basis. Our names are out there.

Most people have been very appreciative of our efforts but more than a few have been rude, dismissive, blamed us for what happened and even threatened to make us a part of the inevitable class action to come.

I’m told that the lawyers have been squabbling on exactly how to word things and that’s why the web page hasn’t been updated yet. It should be soon.

The official webpage is now updated with a link to how to get a refund.

Over 90% of tickets have already been refunded.

It probably doesn’t mean much in light of the hate, frustration, disappointment, and other abuse that you volunteers are getting - on top of your own, but for what it’s worth, a good job trying to take care of everyone else from me.

Now I think is a good time to blow off some of your own steam and regrets, and perhaps have some  , :wine_glass: , or other soothing indulgence of your choice.

Again, it speaks well of you to have put all the others first, but don’t ignore your own frustrations and pains!

Thanks. I genuinely appreciate that.

Apologies for my earlier criticism hajario. And compliments on your hard work.

To close the loop, my friend had already initiated a CC chargeback before I sent him the eventbrite info. He’s got his money back, and presumably according to the current info on the website he’ll be keeping it.

I appreciate that.

There are two remedies. If you file a dispute with your credit card, EB will not dispute it and you will get paid. If you ask EB for a refund, they will reimburse you directly unless you’ve filed a credit card dispute because that will take precedence. I would hope that anyone in the dark would have filed a credit card dispute.

There’s lots of free music today through Sunday in Ventura. Anyone close by should pay a visit.

There was music in Ventura. In just nine days the local Deadhads and various musicians and local venues pulled off a beautiful and fun event. The City of Ventura rushed through permits. It was nothing short of miraculous and went off without a hitch. I love my community.

The fields full of dancing, they’re singing and romancing, the music never stopped!

they do that in pro wrestling too lyou go to a tv taping for 3 or 4 hours with a whole bunch of fluff (ie squash matches several interviews ect) because you might be sitting through 3 or 4 tv weekly shows and your reward is a non televised non advertised main event that might be good or might be bunk you don’t know until it happens …
