# Canon/Fanon reason why weapons miss in Star Trek

I think my point then, as now, was that battles _did_ take place at hyperlight speeds; the question of which weapon was involved is irrelevant.

A better example than “Elaan of Troius” is “The Ultimate Computer.” The battle against Federation starships is fought with phasers at warp speeds.
