Can't remember the title of this fantasy/sci-fi book... Help!

Indeed they do. Personally, I prefer “The Golden Compass” instead of “Northern Lights” because it fits in with the other two book titles.

I was thinking of Stephen R. Donaldson’s The Land but that’s neither a title, nor was it published recently.

Too bad. I’ve always thought it’d be better for the screen than LOTR.

Well, comingsoon.net might be a good place to check. I’d look myself but it has too many graphics and my poor old crappy laptop computer can’t handle it.

I reckon this is a good bet, though. Mis-remembered because the title kind of suggests ‘land’ in its feel without being a real word. And I do believe it’s being made into a movie, even though the TV series was a bit of a disappointment by all accounts.

Is that it for sure? I was going to suggest Riverworld by Philip Jose Farmer – abou the only book he wrote (of about 40 to 60) that was at all popular. Though not recent, it was recently reprinted and also recently made into a TV movie on the Sci Fi channel (about a year ago).

There is also an Earthsea miniseries in production that is scheduled to air on SciFi in December.

I can’t find any mention of Summerland as being in production as a movie. I guess there’s a TV show that’s in production with that name.

Thanks anyway, guys.

I wonder if you’re talking about Tideland which is currently being filmed by Terry Gilliam.

I don’t know anything about it except that it has something to do with talking dolls.

word. Can’t wait to see it. Did you check out the new website for it on Sci Fi? Looks pretty good.

I’ve actually never even read the books, but they’ve been recommended to me many times and I just picked up the first two from Half-Price Books the other day–partially motivated by the ads for the SciFi show. I’ll check out the website after reading the books–I don’t want to stumble across any spoilers!

I hear ya. I’m actually getting to the point where I’d rather read the books after watching the adaptation anway - that way I’m not dispappointed if things aren’t exactly how I’d pictured it. Because they never are.

Anyway, the third trailer for mini series is up.
