Can't see the forest for the trees

My brother has a strong dislike of public transport of any kind, especially trains. To my surprise, he expressed an interest in travelling with me over the renownedly scenic rail route which runs for 100-odd miles through wild areas of the southern half of Wales. When we did so, however, he gave vent to displeasure and disappointment about the large amounts of trees and woodland close to the line which he found, for most of the run, to block the view of bare moors and mountains. There’s no pleasing some people… perhaps he’d enjoy the journey more, if taken in midwinter.
