Satan’s contribution to modern technology is that fucking cap lock key. hE even located it where the little finger hits it all the friggen time. Here I am, finally getting a coherent thought on the screen and look, two damn lines IN CAPS. Fucking cap lock key. Locate the og damn thing on the bottom side of the keyboard please. Damn sATAN and his bullshit. OH, and screw that QWERTY dude for putting this worthless terrorist key on the keyboard. i FEEL MUCH BETTER NOW. ---

There are nice keyboard remapping utilities that let you reassign, say, cAPS lOCK to the Scroll Lock key, and disable CL altogether. I had one that worked until the Win7 update and never bothered to replace it. The Mrs has much the same hatred for CL, Windows, Menu and other keys that you do. ---

There was a computer next to my work station at my job. Someone had turned on caps lock. An innocent, yet perpetually angry coworker walked up to the computer to use the internet on his break. Remember the NFL coach with the memorable: Playoffs? PLAYOFFS? rant? That’s exactly what this guy sounded like when he shouted: Caps Lock? CAPS LOCK? I was entirely amused, and since I worked next to this computer, you can bet that caps lock was on at this guy’s lunchtime. Call it work-trolling, I guess. But it was amusing. ---

Caps lock is okay as long as people stop typing their entire post in it. There are still people in 2015 who do this. It boggles my mind. How the hell does that happen? Why do they not try to fix it? ETA: i TrIED to PoST My ENtIRE ScREED iN AlL CAPS! But the SDMB coders obviously had enough of reading that shit, too. Please share this arcane ability with Zuckerberg, pretty pretty please? ---

I don’t hate that. But what I do hate is the fact that on keyboards the period key has this symbol \> as it’s capital rather than another period as was the case on every typewriter I learned to type on as I was growing up. That and the fact that I just had to get a new mouse and I accidently hit the “right click” button CONSTANTLY\>(whoops, I meant .) ---

I feel your pain…but I have found a solution. I use [AutoHotkey](http://www.autohotkey.com) to, among other things, remap my Caps Lock key. By itself, it now does nothing at all; if I want to use the CapsLock function I need to press Shift+CapsLock. It’s reduced my accidental capitalization by about 99.4% (though I do still somehow manage to unintentionally hit \*both \*keys from time to time…) ---
