The one and only time I was in Dublin was in 1985. There was a restaurant called (I think) The 57th Precinct. The decor was supposed to be a New York police station. It served so called American food. I do remember that the owner was very gracious and welcoming when he found out we were Americans. And the burgers were fantastic. I wonder if it is still there? I’m probably completely wrong but I think it was near Trinity College.
That place has been on Grafton Street for 30+ years. Chris de Burgh used to play piano there!
And the food is epically shite but it was a treat to go there when I was poor in Dublin in the late 80’s.
Disney has sued independently owned day care centers for having Disney characters painted on the walls. I’d be very much surprised if Marvel’s lawyers were any less shark-like.
Yeah, I used to be rich. I owned Mickey Mouse Massage Parlors. Then
those Disney sleazeballs shut me down.
They threatened to sue- upon seeing an opportunity to capitalize on their new theme park in the area competing against Disney’s, Universal Studios allowed them to use Hanna-Barbera characters for free after word of the lawsuit hit the news.
Shoulda told them you’d change the logo, put Mickey’s pants back on.
Forget it- some jerks you just can’t reason with.
If it comes to that, does the Forbidden Planet chain of book and comic stores have to pay royalties to the makers of the film of the same name?
Off the top of my head, it’s a completely different situation. A movie title by itself is not a trademark.
“It’s clobbering time!”
I really thought there would be a Captain America buff on here who would know what the story was.
Damn you getting in before me. They played one or two songs at Reading 1992 on the main stage as the wee stage was blown down. They were mates with Teenage Fanclub (all part of the Glasgow indie rock scene) and they let them take a bit of their time.
IIRC Eugene Kelly, from The Vaselines was the main guy in the band.
Nah, Captain America kinda sucks. Ask us about one of the cooler Avengers.
He’s Captain Americas <— It’s not possessive; it’s plural.
North and South - he’s Captain of ALL of the Americas - in which Central is lumped in with North.
Is Tengu not around? Isn’t he the resident comics geek?
Correct. The Vaselines would probably be best known outside of Glasgow for Nirvana’s covers of a couple of their songs, “Molly’s Lips” and “Jesus Don’t Want Me For A Sunbeam”.
This is really a contractual issue. Why would a comic book fan be the best source?
Only because the contract (if it exists) pertains to a popular comic book character.
Forget it, Jake. It’s Disneyland.
Under the circumstances he probably prefer getting his gloves back.
