A 25-year-old woman who was pulled over in a possibly-stolen vehicle, has stolen the Sheriff’s deputy’s SUV. She’s driving round the Lancaster/Palmdale area, which is my ‘Old Stomping Ground’. ---

Jake: You traded the Blues Mobile for this? Elwood: No. For a microphone. Jake: A microphone? Okay I can see that. Well, what the hell is this? Elwood: This was a bargain. I picked it up at the Mount Prospect City Police auction last spring. It’s an old Mount Prospect Police Car. They were practically giving them away. Jake: Well, thank you pal, the day I get out of prison, my own brother picks me up in a police car. [Fog horn and warning bell sounds.] Elwood: You don’t like it? Jake: No, I don’t like it. [Elwood drives over a raising draw bridge.] Jake: Cars got a lot of pick up. Elwood: It’s got a cop motor, a four hundred and forty cubic inch plant, it’s got cop tires, cop suspension, cop shocks, it was a model made before catalytic converters so it’ll run good on regular gas. Whaddya say? Is it the new Blues Mobile or what? Jake: Fix the cigarette lighter. ---

For some reason the LASD can’t pursue her. So no blocking of roads, no ground units chasing her. All they can do is talk to her on the radio and follow her with the helicopter. Pretty dangerous for the unsuspecting public. CNN Headline News is saying that she is ‘unstable’, crying and screaming, and asking to talk to her mother and boyfriend. I’m not familiar with the LASD policies regarding car chases. Anyone know why they can’t chase her? 😕 ---

For some reason, I kept thinking this would be about Lancaster, Pennsylvania, and involve horses-and-buggies somehow. E. ---

Well, they got her. CNN had a question about weather LASD policy was broken. An unmarked car blocked her path and a deputy pointed a gun at her. This allowed other units to come up behind her and pull her out of the SUV. Apparently, the LASD has a policy of not chasing people because of public safety concerns. ---

This is completly off-topic, but when you say “old stomping grouns”, the only thing I can think of is a Jim Gaffigan bit: (He’s a very pale, white guy) “Whenever I travel, I always pretend I’m from that place so the cabbie doesn’t rip me off. Yup, good to be back here in my hometown of Tokyo. Where am I going? Well that would be my old stomping grounds…the Holiday Inn, and the address appears to be the pound sign.” ---

I just wanted to chime in to say I sure as heck am glad that I am not that deputy wose SUV she snagged. It’s one thing to see a story on a car chase in your old (or current) neighborhood, How would you feel watching the news only to see one of your co-workers in the lead of car chase? When I lived in San Diego, I worked at UCSD. One night, my patient was in surgery, so to pass the time, we were watching the news, and complaining about the nurse who didn’t show up or call in. I was pulled from elsewhere to fill her spot. A story about an “unsual” car chase came on. They showed a white Mustang being pulled over on the CHP CYA cam. Some one laughed and said “Hey, that looks like Sarah’s\* mom’s car, she’s been driving it while her’s in in the shop. Woudn’t it be funny if… OMG!” On screen we saw that as the cop walked up to the driver’s window, the female driver put her foot into it, and spun a doughnut a foot from the cop and took off. For a split second she was face to face with the camera. Yep, it was the nurse who hadn’t showed up for work. She took them on a merry chase for almost an hour, reaching 110 MPH on I-8. They caught her not far from Alpine. She misjudged a curve and spun out. The car slammed into a tree just behind the driver’s door. She had a two inch cut on her forehead, no other injuries. She was charged with evading arrest, DUI, two counts of possession of a controled substance, (Pot and Cocaine) and attempted assault of an officer. I figured I was going to see a lot of the surgical ICU for a while. :rolleyes: We never saw her again. \*Name has been change to protect the not so innocent ---

According to the Channel 5 news, the deputy who pulled her over was just about to tell her she was free to go when she stole the car and took off. It’s too bad they can’t make Being A Flaming Idiot into a federal crime.
