I think it would be fun, just not in the winter. I have spent the night in a car for fun with friends before.
If you come my way let me know, I’ll buy you dinner and show you around rural North Carolina for a day or so. Not a problem.
Back in the late 70s ex-Mr. Tupug and I traveled the country in a VW camper. We pretty much traveled till funds got low and then looked for temporary jobs and digs till we built up our nest egg again. As with Ringo, we found most people were kind and generous wherever we went. It was very confidence-building. Nothing beats knowing you can pick up stakes and start over somewhere else and be alright. Helpful Hint: If you or a friend has AAA membership, they have free booklets listing campgrounds by states. Some are very cheap, and most have bathroom/shower facilities. Good luck.
Don’t try what McCandless did unless you plan on dying.
Camping in Alaska isn’t like camping out in the rest of the country.
One thing you should do is set up a schedual of dates to check in with people. And give them an idea of where you’re going next.
I had a friend who lived in his truck for two years. He lived in Steamboat Springs, decided that rent cost to much, and that he had no possesions at all, so he just decided to live in his truck to save money. His truck had a topper, and he had a -30 sleeping bag and a space blanket for the really cold nights. And the place where he worked had a shower, so he just didn’t need a house.
He was happy as hell living like that, and fishing for his dinner most nights. (plus I think there was some illegal hunting going on as well ;)).
TheRochester I would be more than glad to help you out, provided you tell me a few interesting yarns during dinner.
