The door handle works just fine but my car doesn’t have so much as a door ding yet and looking at the missing thingy is very annoying. What is it called, please? ---

It’s a lock trim cover. Depending on the manufacturer, you may or may not be able to buy it separately, else you’ll have to purchase a complete handle assembly or try to find a salvage unit. Stranger ---

Door handle keyhole trim thingy. (Guessed 2008 Ford Focus from the picture) Eta: I think I guessed wrong. ---

I would recommend replacing it because it isn’t purely cosmetic; it helps prevent water intrusion into the lock. Depending on the car, you can probably get a salvage door handle assembly for cheap. The pain is replacing it because you have to remove the interior panel to access the fasteners holding the handle in place and the linkage to the door latch mechanism. I can’t identify the make from that handle but I’m guessing it is an older vehicle. [This](https://www.amazon.com/beler-Exterior-Front-Handle-4H1837879/dp/B07G4BFZPT) is the type of thing you are looking for but it will be specific to the model of car. Stranger ---

I’m sure that you are right. Happily, I do have a friend who can do the work for me which will save some money, but not that much because he has expensive tastes in whiskey. ---

49 years in auto repair and I’ve never seen that little cover offered separately. It’s integral with the handle assembly. ---

Darn again. Do you have any idea why it fell off?\* I’ve never actually used the key to unlock it so wouldn’t have noticed if it was loose or anything. \*not that it really matters, it’s already happened, but I’m all kinds of nosy. ---

However, since the old one fell off unprovoked, I would wonder about the integrity of the part it’s secured into, 80654N or 80606H (whichever it attaches to). In theory, you may have to replace that if its failure is the reason the escutcheon fell off. ---

De nada. Just be aware that beyond the part number, the escutcheon has a color code (after the part number with a dash). I couldn’t figure out what the finish code would be for the chrome you need, so you’ll have to look for that where you get the part.
