I wonder how much of the conversation is along the lines of “*Any *of you guys wanna tell us you’re sure you’re clean? Anybody? We need to pick somebody . We sure got fooled by Ratzo. Mahoney, Law, you two just shut the fuck up, okay?”
Do you wonder if Law keeps following O’Malley around at the conclave, asking him how things are going, while O’Malley keeps trying to duck him?
“Oh fuck, is that Bernie coming this way again? Tell him I had to go the to crapper.” (runs off)

That’s right the Catholic Church, who would have you believe are moral arbiters on this earth with a direct line to God himself, admit no wrongdoing in this case where it is clear they protected and enabled a paedophile.
I sometimes wish they were right and there was a Hell.
This is the real problem.
The Catholic Church is **absolutely convinced **that protecting pedophiles and helping them get away with raping children is the right thing to do.
It’s their morality. It’s their bedrock. It’s what they stand for and who they are.

Let us note that the2011 guidelines for dealing with these cases STILL DO NOT make reporting of these crimes to law enforcement mandatory.
More.
But critics called the new rules weak because they include few substantive changes to the church’s approach.
The worldwide church has yet to adopt a “zero-tolerance” policy similar to one created by U.S. bishops that force priests out of ministry after a single case of pedophilia. The new rules also do not mention mandatory reporting of abuse to police nor establish sanctions to deal with bishops who cover up abuse.
The Vatican did, however, institute a policy that angered women’s groups: a provision that labels any attempt to ordain women as a grave crime, the same words used to describe sex abuse. Some Catholic women’s rights activists accused the Vatican of equating the ordination of a woman to the molestation of children.
If I were King and my word were the only law, I’d get about establishing a constitutional monarchy within the day and making the King’s word not the law by the end of the week, but a symbol of constitutional protection that expired and became an elected presidency at the time of my death. Hey, it’s still good to be the King. And I do look like the piss-boy.

Oh look.
What one did not hear from any senior member of the Argentine hierarchy was any expression of regret for the church’s collaboration and in these crimes. The extent of the church’s complicity in the dark deeds was excellently set out by Horacio Verbitsky, one of Argentina’s most notable journalists, in his book El Silencio (Silence). He recounts how the Argentine navy with the connivance of Cardinal Jorge Bergoglio, now the Jesuit archbishop of Buenos Aires, hid from a visiting delegation of the Inter-American Human Rights Commission the dictatorship’s political prisoners. Bergoglio was hiding them in nothing less than his holiday home in an island called El Silencio in the River Plate. The most shaming thing for the church is that in such circumstances Bergoglio’s name was allowed to go forward in the ballot to chose the successor of John Paul II. What scandal would not have ensued if the first pope ever to be elected from the continent of America had been revealed as an accessory to murder and false imprisonment
Oh well, I suppose Fascist collaborator is an improvement and what’s a few political prisoners between friends.
Shit, maybe he *is *the cleanest one. Oh well, the *desaparecidos *are all forgotten now anyway.

He may well be. No-one can rise to the top levels of a criminal organisation without getting their hands dirty. The RCC has rarely met a brutal right-wing regime it didn’t like so I doubt it’s even crossed the minds of anyone in scarlet that collaborating is an issue.
A few brutalized children, a few murdered political prisoners, those sorts of things are pretty small prices for the un-Called to pay to protect the power of the privileged Brotherhood that purports to love them.
Besides, all that suffering is actually good for them. It brings them closer to God.
I’m suggesting we go with the title: Molester of the Faith.

Except when it’s your OWN suffering, right Mother Theresa?

It’s certainly snappier but is riffing on the British Monarch’s Defender of The Faith title.
A young altar boy unexpectly walks in on a priest masturbating furiously. 'What are you doing? he asks.
‘Wanking myself off,’ the Priest replies. ‘Don’t worry, it’s perfectly natural. You’ll be doing it soon.’
‘Really?’ the boy says. ‘Why’s that?’
‘Because my wrists are killing me.’
I’ll be here all week.

And lest the lunatic natterings of our resident shark completely derail the thesis of this thread, The Church Is men like Bernard Cardinal Law , who 11 years ago prompted me to write a flame in The Pit that earned me the flaming of my life here. Tough shit- as it turns out, I was 100% right. Like so many of these priests, he’s a world-class protector of child rapists and was in turn protected by The Vatican.
The entire situation stinks like yesterday’s diapers.
Please do explain, someone, how the entire architecture of protecting child rapists is what Jesus wanted. Please, please, tell me that these men are doing God’s work.
Go ahead. Make your best argument. They’re all in the right? Then inform the rest of us how they’re just doing the work of Jesus.
Because I’ll tell ya, the Jesus I understand would have had nothing to do with this.
Nothing.
Aaaaaand, the babyfucker is dead. Bernie Law, former ‘Man Of God’, dead at 86. I’m not sure I believe in Hell. But I believe he should rest extremely UNeasily. Forever.
Once again, to be clear, those Roman Catholics who lost their mind on me in my original Pitting all those years ago? As a group, ( because using foul language against an individual is a violation of the TOS here ), ya’ll can go and fuck yourselves. Still outraged over my post? Still deeply morally offended that I would dare to attack a cleric who protects child rapists?
Hmmmm.
Mighty UnChristian of ya’ll.
Mighty UnChristian.

Good christian family values and all that. :dubious:
The whole bunch should have gone to prison and stayed there. The abusers and the others who covered up for them.
Burn in hell.

Yeah, I’m not sure why you think this gets you around the “don’t tell other posters to fuck themselves,” rule, but it doesn’t. Don’t do this again.
No warning issued.
