To buy or not to buy?
Reading your post I think you know the answer already.
That car will be nothing but trouble and a money pit
Why do people post car questions all the time and withhold the make and model etc? Are you afraid someone will jump in and steal it or something? I don’t get it.
This happens all the time around here.
I’m not clear of how you’re reading that report as a huge scary mess. The car had an accident at 6 years old and 54,000 miles and was classified as salvaged and re-built. The insurance company decision to classify as salvaged in based on the retail cost to repair vs residual value of the car does not mean the damage was insanely extensive simply that it was more than they wanted to pay vs cutting a check for the depreciated value of the car less the deductible. What was the used car value of a 1991 300ZX in good condition with 54,000 miles on it in 1997? Take that number and deduct (say) a 1000 - 1500 deductible and that might be a rough estimate of the damage.
It was then fixed and driven for another 60,000 miles. I think the issue at this point is less that the car was repaired in the past and more the issue that you are talking about a sports car with 115,00 miles on it. Regardless of the refurb you’re not getting a Toyota Camry and you had best expect that a number of wear items on the car will being to fail at this point regardless of the accident history and that maintaining it will be expected and a cost of the thrill of the performance.
The bottom line is what you are paying for the privilege. Given your cautious nature this is probably not the kind of car you need.
60,000 miles after the rebuild indicates the repair work was done well.
Now its been repaired again. The current owner spent 3 years restoring it. I’d get it checked by a mechanic. I’d buy it if its in good shape.
