To me, the funniest thing is that (I looked this up just to find out) you, **Liberal** , **CarnalK** , **Hostile Dialect** , **Omegaman** , and I have _all_ exchanged harsh words with each other, both _much_ more recently _and_ much longer ago than the made-up feud **Colibri** probably would now wish he hadn’t resurrected, if only he were smarter. But nonetheless we still (possibly because we’re not moderators) manage also to get along and even compliment each other or at least not fight in other threads wherein we agree, or at least mutually disagree with the right folks…gee, maybe egocentric grudges _aren’t_ the norm, after all. But,soft! **fluiddruid** wants an out from explaining him/herself? Here’s the recipe: avoid actions which require explanation, whether or not you are flexing moderator wings, practice humility, and realize, as some do not, that being a moderator is the result of authority conferred upon one from somewhere else, not a reflection of one’s _own_ ability or quality. Beyond that, the requirement for moderators is that they be moderate, and that’s too much to hope for. ---

Perhaps I should change tactics. **Colibri** , are you all right? Just checking. I tend not to worry about the date and time of previous posts as long as a thread is current, knowing as I do that neither I nor any normal person scans the board constantly in real time. To type a post addressing **Liberal** a couple of days after his last post really didn’t seem out of bounds, even if I mentioned your name in it. Wait – this isn’t going to be one of those cases where you accuse people of posting behind your back, is it? I’d hate that. In any event, when I said “let it lie,” I meant the two-year-old “grudge” you invented in order to pretend that a complaint about your behavior must necessarily be prompted by absolutely anything besides your behavior. I certainly did not suggest that your current behavior should be henceforth out of bounds as a topic of discussion widely and/or in depth. So I mentioned it again. Actually, mostly I was defending myself against the idea that I would hold an internet grudge at all, much less for years, by listing the fairly large number of people in this thread with whom I’ve exchanged harsh words in the past but am managing to agree with or at least respectfully disagree with here. **Colibri** , the fact that you would research threads going back two years in order to find a disagreement with me so you can point at it to discredit what I said is frankly bizarre behavior, and it’s of a piece with whatever drives your impuse to answer people not by actually answering but by proclaiming that answering them is beneath you either because their concerns are worthless or they themselves are of bad character or both.
