Didn’t Obama cancel a replacement program for the Marine One helicopters citing a cost overrun?
Yeah, we talked about that already. Just two posts back, in fact.
Quoting from transcript of interview between Greg Hayes, CEO of United Technologies, and CNBC’s Jim Cramer:
In other words, the eventual outcome is many, perhaps most, of the 800 whose jobs were “saved” are going to be drawing unemployment anyway.
Trump got royally taken on this. Not only will Carrier still save the labor costs they planned on with the move, they now will get 7 million to offset some of the cost of automation.
The Art Of The Deal. [old rolleyes]
To be taken he would have had to believe the facts of the deal in the first place. I’m sure he understood Carrier to be speaking euphemistically since that’s what HE does when he wants to make people feel better. Liars expect to be lied to.
I’m curious to hear analyses from various viewpoints on this new bit of Carrier-related news:
Carrier is raising the prices of its air conditioners and furnaces by up to 5%.
The company actually announced its plans to customers on Nov. 23, a week before it reached a deal with President-elect Donald Trump to keep 800 jobs at an Indianapolis furnace plant instead of moving them to Mexico. The price increase gained more attention this week in the wake of that deal.
If the price hike came in the wake of the deal to keep 800 jobs in the US, I would automatically interpret this as fall-out from the deal (I mentioned higher prices for consumers as one of my concerns if companies are strong-armed into staying in the US when it would be cheaper to produce elsewhere). Yet, if I read this correctly, the price hike would have occurred no matter what.
I have no idea if this is at all relevant to the discussion. Perhaps Carrier’s competitors are also raising prices, due to some increase input cost that affects all of them? I dunno.
I was thinking what Quicksilver said- see if those jobs are still there in a year or two or if they silently moved south.

Those guys already voted for Trump so he got what he wanted, so it’s cool! MAGA!
