This is the first Bond I’ve wanted to see since “Diamonds are Forever,” and that was mostly for Jill St John’s ass cleavage. I think I’ll rent it tonight. ---

The Smersh agent tells Bond that he has no orders to kill anyone but Le Chiffre. He then carves a sign of some kind on Bond’s hand so that he is identifiable as a potential enemy to Smersh agents in the future. ---

I enjoyed this Bond more than any I’ve seen in the last 40 years. To me, Connery shooting the guy with the spear gun in _Thunderball_ and saying “I think he got he point,” marks the beginning of the decline and fall of the series. So to finally have a Bond that was truer to the earlier books is refreshing. ---

Because I meant that I think the Bond films take place in or about the year they are released (but I’d like to know if I’m incorrect). Goldfinger is from 1964, so I’d expect it to take place in the 1960s. ---

“How was the lamb?” “Skewered. One sympathizes.” Add me to the list of ones who loved it. I place it 3rd, behind Goldfinger and From Russia With Love. My only complaint is one that happens in most movies - why does the winning hand always come down to the fact that they have the nuts? It would have been better if Bond had bluffed him with a worse hand than have them both have ridiculously great cards. ---

Craig made a tough, human, 3-Dimensional Bond, and that has been lacking somewhat for a while. It’s good they tried to get back to basics, but they didn’t quite make it, IMO. The De-Fib re-animation scene was awfully silly. And I know that 007 is a clever fellow, but I find it hard to believe that M’s home defenses would be defeated so easily. There were a few other things that didn’t quite follow… I am sorry I don’t recall them as the movie didn’t really stick with me that much. …Except for the opening action sequence–bouncing up and down crane platforms. I realize the bad-guy actor in those scenes can really run around like that but the whole thing looked like a big advertisement for “Casino Royale:007 For Wii”. Actually, rather more like “Donkey Kong” than a 21st century video game. Pretty lame. Good try overall, though… and an effort to move a tired franchise in the right direction. ---
