Something that I missed from the movie… can someone fill me in as to what it was about “the package” that Hanks delivered at the end of the movie that “saved his life”?

I can see how some weak argument could be made that it gave him some purpose, or _some_thing, but as I said in my MPSIMS thread ([http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?threadid=56157](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?threadid=56157))…this film was a complete disappointment.

Making sense and meaning were a bit lacking, or absent altogether, in too many aspects of this film.

You might also want to check out this [Cast Away thread in GQ](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?threadid=52807), which discusses that question, among others.

Thanks for finding that link, **Arj**. I’m going to close this thread to keep all the _Cast Away_ posts in the same place.
