On the casting of the gods, Brian Blessed as Baccus (or is it Dionysus in greek mythology?) Hmm, I see Bacchus as Blessedlike, but Dionysus as much younger (and trimmer) how odd.
All of these noms are better than the people I’ve heard the studios considering, your basic 20-something maybe to go with Orlando Bloom’s Paris. No one ever reads the “source material” is my guess. One of the contenders is/was Kristin Kreuk, aka Lana Lang on Smallville. She’s arguably attractive could maybe sorta kinda pass off as Mediterranean, but — not that good an actress. I doubt they would not show Helen. How would they manage the mandatory love scenes?
God lord. With Adrian Paul, Sean Bean and Orlando Bloom in the movie, I would surely have a religious experience everytime I saw the movie. (Which would likely be as often as possible)
astorian: Helen’s looks would not have been fading. You forget that she was immortal. Clytemnestra was the mortal female born to Leda and Tyndareus. (The same deal worked with Castor and Pollux; one was immortal and one was mortal; I forget which.
She definitely retained her looks and charisma long after the Trojan War. Reread the section of the Odyssey where Telemachus and his companion visit Menelaus for information.
I was just about to say the same thing, Peyote. If she ever does fade, it’s a long, long time after Homer last saw her. On the other hand, though, she should not look twentysomething. Contrary to what Holywood seems to think, it’s quite possible for a woman over forty to still be stunningly gorgeous.
Apparently the movie PTB have found their Helen. She is Diana Kreuger, a sometime ballet dancer/model/actress. Not surprisingly, she is very young (looking) and probably cast to look good next to Orlando Bloom instead of preserving accuracy.
