Inspired by the Dr. Who series thread…

Suppose I give you a hundred million simoleons with which you are to produce a blockbuster Doctor Who movie. Your job, should you choose to accept it, is to produce an absolutely jaw-dropping, super-awesome Doctor Who movie, 2 hours of clever, ass-kicking fun. You are not held to any specific continuity with the TV serieses if you don’t want to be; you want to present an awesome Doctor Who experience to the uninitiated viewer.

- Who plays Doctor Who?
- Which sidekicks do you have? Who plays them?
- Who’s the antagonist? Who plays him/her?
- Are there Daleks? If so, how would you make them awesome and scary?
- Do you have a basic plot outline you could share?
- Who would direct?

With my limited Dr. Who experience, I still find the concept of a big-budget, jaw-dropping, awesome Dr. Who production to be totally antithetical to the very charm of the series. It’s like comparing the big-budget CGI/animated model Matthew Broderick-starring film misnamed GODZILLA with the Japanese man-in-a-rubber-suit productions which are true GODZILLA films.

A dashingly handsome Dr. & mega-hot-babe Companion in a super-sleek TARDIS
battling CGI Wetta-studio-quality Daleks loses out when compared to a goofy floppy-hatted, scarf-wearing bloke & cute-attainable-chick in a tricked-out phone-booth battling enlarged plastic Salt & Pepper Shaker-Daleks.

For some reason, it occurs to me that Tommy Lee Jones could do a good Doctor.

agreed, part of the charm of TOS Dr. Who was it’s low-budget cheesiness, not Star Trek TOS Styrofoam boulders level cheese, mind you, but still low-budget cheese

however, playing along with the rules in the OP;

choose one from each of the following group;
The Doctor; Craig Charles, James Earl Jones, Adrian Edmonton, Alexi Sayle, Anthony Simcoe
The Master; Wayne Pygram
The Doctor’s female travelling companions; Claudia Black, Gigi Edgely, Nichelle Nichols, Virginia Hey, Grace Park, Marina Sirtis, Roxanna Biggs-Dawson, Kandyse McLure,

personally, i’d prefer the combos of;

Craig Charles and Gigi Edgely
Anthony Simcoe and Roxanna Biggs-Dawson
James Earl Jones and Virginia Hey
